Joshua Ben Joseph Project: A Full Length Feature Film Introduction to The Urantia Book

In 2014, David Kantor released a wonderful feature length film called Re-Imagining Jesus, which is still viewed regularly on Amazon Prime, with a revised version a few years later on YouTube

Among viewers’ comments were “exquisite and breathtakingly beautiful”, “spell-binding photography and flawless narration”, and “an incredible gift to the world”.

David’s next project, through his Joshua Ben Joseph Project and his company Urantia Book Films, is a 90-minute film introducing The Urantia Book.

One of his objectives is to provide an introduction to The Urantia Book for Christian clergy and educated lay persons. He also wants to help existing readers understand some of the repercussions of the fourth epochal revelation leading to the fifth. And he’d also like to “facilitate strong and productive identity formation among readers…”

David’s explanation of what inspired him to undertake this project is inspiring in itself: “This project is an outgrowth of my conviction that spiritually dedicated religious leadership in the world today needs the revelation contained in The Urantia Book and that with my own life I should be doing everything I can to help make that happen.”

Filmmaking for spiritual purposes

His philosophy of filmmaking, he says, is to exploit it for spiritual purposes. This means it goes well beyond providing information, entertainment or an aesthetic experience. “The real challenge is to create an environment in the mind of the viewer within which the Spirit of Truth can work to illuminate its objectives—to provide a catalyst for spiritual transformation within the individual viewer.”

Work on the movie started about seven years ago and it has used two grants from The Second Miler Grant Program to help along the way.

The film is taking slightly longer than originally projected because David tries to use the latest technology and innovations in his moviemaking – and the advent of AI was unforeseen. Its adoption is expected to enhance the final outcome.

Still, David says, the project is on a clear trajectory towards completion and going according to plan. It is planned for release sometime next year.
