Double Helix

Science Symposium 2022

Thursday, June 16, to Sunday, June 19, 2022

Since the last Science Symposium in November 2019, scientific discoveries have continued to expand and excite public consciousness. A worldwide pandemic and its aftermath propelled mRNA, CRISPR-Cas9, and the benefits of genetic research into the mainstream. A recent study published by a Smithsonian anthropologist used ancient DNA to trace modern South Asian ancestry back to early hunter-gatherers of Iran. Scientists released the largest 3D map of the universe ever created, producing measurements of more than two million galaxies and quasars. The current worldview of an expanding universe continues to approach that of revealed cosmology, which describes a universe revolving about God on Paradise.

New General Councilors 2021

Trudi Cooper

Trudi Cooper

Trudi Cooper has volunteered and been elected as the Secretary General.

Trudi wrote in her application: “My hopes and ideas for The Urantia Book are, quite simply, I hope its message of love and brotherhood spreads throughout the planet, so we can eventually move into the era of peace and brotherhood, and all God's children on this strife-torn planet can come to know the love of our Father and our Brother Jesus more deeply.

“My hopes and ideas for the Fellowship are increased outreach, illuminating a pathway for seekers to find the book and know its teachings.”

Lila Dogim

Lila Dogim

Lila Dogim has volunteered and been elected as the Worldwide Service Team Chair.

Lila stated: “I hope that The Urantia Book and, especially it’s teachings, will saturate the peoples of this world.

“My hope and belief is the Fellowship will continue growing into a vibrant worldwide organization.”

Pamela Keller

Pamela Keller

Pamela Keller has volunteered and been elected as the Youth and Young Adult Committee Chair.

Pamela enthused: “I am beyond excited to be entrusted to this position and to be embarking on this journey. I look forward to exploring fresh ideas and projects for the youth in and outside of our community. I am also so excited to be involved in some newly emerging projects. There is new focus around the upstepping of spiritual language in outreach, a call to create a more universal, yet personally accessible idea of God through how we talk about him.

“My hopes and ideas for The Urantia Book are to see ministry/service expand, networking and regional conferences/activity improve, and more work of bridging the modern religious experience through spiritual Truth given by the Urantia Revelation. I would like to see its Truth reach out and bring good news to those who are seeking refuge from the storm.

“My hopes and ideas for the Fellowship are to continue to see it expand and inspire others to volunteer their service. We can do more when others know more about how to help or where they can go to be of use. I am of the mind that there are those who are interested in religion and there are those who live it through service. Many, such as myself, are looking for ways to do that in this community. I would like to see us training more people and creating more ways to connect. I would like to see us implementing more tools to engage Urantians remotely via online apps, and even old fashioned newsletters or postcards. Our current situation has highlighted a very large hole in the connection factor, although I know much is already underway. I hope to be a part of it.”

Al Lockett

Al Lockett

Al Lockett has volunteered and been elected as the Outreach Committee Chair.

Al stated: “My hopes and ideas for The Urantia Book are that it continues its important role as the Fifth Epochal Revelation in the spiritual uplift of the planet and provides spiritual satisfaction and refuge for truth searchers worldwide. I also hope that its presence, and influence continues to grow physically in numbers, intellectually in wisdom, and spiritually in the collective unity of faith.

“My hopes and ideas for the Fellowship are that its presence, and influence, continues to grow physically in numbers, intellectually in wisdom, and spiritually in the collective unity of faith.”

David Meyer

David Meyer

David Meyer has volunteered and been elected as a member of the General Council.

David explained: “My hopes and ideas for The Urantia Book are that more people discover, read, and understand the value of the information presented in the book. My ideas are endless—organizing them is a work in progress.

“The fellowship appears to be the most effective organization disseminating The Urantia Book. I hope for its continued growth and success. Confirming the cosmological and genealogical information the book presents is fundamental to the book’s widespread acceptance. I have many ideas on how to further this effort.”

Toni Oyeyemi

Toni Oyeyemi

Toni Oyeyemi has volunteered and been participating as a member of the Second Miler Grant Program.

Toni stated: “My hopes and ideas for The Urantia Book are increased accessibility and readability, especially for children, teenagers and young adults.

“My hopes and ideas for the Fellowship are greater reach and growth around the world, especially to unreached people groups.”

Maksim Zintsov

Maksim Zintsov

Maksim Zintsov has volunteered and been elected as a member of the General Council.

Maksim explained: “My hopes and ideas for The Urantia Book are getting it more popular in Social Media.

“My hopes and ideas for the Fellowship are advancing it to keep up with the digital progress.”

Spark of Life

Spark of Life

by Gary Tonge

Here is the latest collaboration video release with composer Kelly Andrew, and videographer Gary Tonge titled "Spark of Life."

Spark of Life

The video illustrates an artistic abstraction of the work conducted on this world to create and launch eukaryotic (evolutionary) life (also see eukaryote). A salient paragraph from The Urantia Book is below:

“The vital spark—the mystery of life—is bestowed through the Life Carriers, not by them. They do indeed supervise such transactions, they formulate the life plasm itself, but it is the Universe Mother Spirit who supplies the essential factor of the living plasm. From the Creative Daughter of the Infinite Spirit comes that energy spark which enlivens the body and presages the mind.” [36:3.4 (399.6)]

Love to you all,

Gary Tonge

Nine Hymns on the Spiritual Life

by Jerry Gerber

https://www.jerrygerber.com/hymns.htm

The Nine Hymns on Spiritual Life are an attempt to give expression to the longing to know divine reality.  I wrote the text to five of the hymns, much inspired by the Urantia Book's teachings. Three of the hymns have text by Rumi and one hymn has text by Paramahansa Yogananda.

Due to the pandemic it is nearly impossible to get a choir together to learn, rehearse and perform these hymns.  So, I did the next best thing:  I used a digital sample library of a professional choir that utilizes word building software. These studio tools allow me to compose for the choir and construct the words I want the choir to sing.  Some of the hymns are a cappella, some have sampled orchestral instruments including strings, harp, and English horn, and a few employ a second virtual choir that sings only syllables, not words. While listening, I recommend reading the words I included in the web link or follow the words in the musical score (a PDF link for each hymn) as it will help clarify the words being sung. This work was completed in July of 2021.

Let This Planet Sparkle

by Constance Wright

Praises be to God on high
my mind it wants to dervish
Upon this spinning world in glee
I’m looking for the service

That I may spend for others
a comfort or a chat
And would the whole of me undo
I wouldn’t give a rat

The time is come for partying
the minds of all are taut
A just and final favoring
those long moaned prayers have wrought

Bring on all the blessings, Lord
Add to the ones we have
Let this planet sparkle, God
We’ve come out not too bad.

Retreat in Cuernavaca, Mexico

August 20-22, 2021

by Joy Brandt

Although the retreat was originally planned for thirty people, the new Delta variant of the coronavirus greatly reduced the number of people willing to travel to Cuernavaca, Mexico for the Jesus Birthday celebration and retreat this year.

Editor’s note: The retreat was held in a monastery.

However, thirteen brave souls showed up, including two from Ecuador and myself from Oregon, USA. The others came from various parts of Mexico, including Cancun, Mazatlan, and areas south of Mexico City and Cuernavaca. Almost up to the day, Agustín Arellano, who planned the event, had expected as many as twenty people to attend. Unfortunately, a couple people tested positive for COVID-19, another was sick in the hospital, and a few others were unable to comply with the complicated restrictions for border crossings in time to be able to fly into Mexico. Nonetheless, the thirteen attendees had a wonderful time and a very full schedule of events.

Retiro del Celebración de Jesús
en Cuernavaca, Mexico

20-22 Agosto, 2021

2021 Triennial Delegate Assembly

by Tom Allen

The Urantia Brotherhood (which later became The Urantia Book Fellowship) was founded in 1955 with a constitution and bylaws that were based on the idea that the central Urantia Brotherhood organization was destined to grow with the input and formation of Local Societies. Each Local Society was and is founded on the principle of being a local, autonomous, congregational, and constitutional organization subservient to the Brotherhood/Fellowship Constitution and Bylaws. The General Council (GC) is chosen by delegates from each of these Local Societies every three years at the Triennial Delegate Assembly (TDA).

Talking to God

by Derek Samaras and Chuck Thurston

https://youtu.be/ZtPDEd75yAY

God’s presence is “always with us.”  Whenever we feel like having a talk, God’s loving fatherly attention will be fully upon us. Jesus discovered this at the young age of six, when he began to insist, after completing his formal prayers, that he be permitted to have “just a little talk with my Father in Heaven.” [123:3.6 (1360.1)]

In this episode of Study Group, we’ll be looking at prayer in this light—that it is an “entirely a personal and spontaneous expression.” [144:2.2 (1618.6)] We’ll learn how prayer (talking to God) serves as a means to expand insight and increase our soul’s reception capacity for spirit. It becomes our “avenue of approach to spiritualized self-realization.” [144:4.5 (1620.12)]

Grandma’s Hatpins

Grandma’s Hatpins

by Esther Wood

“There is no limitation of the forces and personalities which the Father may use to uphold his purpose and sustain his creatures. ‘The eternal God is our refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms.’ ‘He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.’ ‘Behold, he who keeps us shall neither slumber nor sleep.’ ‘We know that all things work together for good to those who love God,’ ‘for the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open to their prayers.’ ” [4:1.4 (55.2), “God’s Relation to the Universe”]

When I was a child, going to my grandma’s house was one of my favorite things to do. It was peaceful there, and I loved her. She was a devout Christian woman who knelt on her kitchen floor every night to pray, an image that still stirs me fifty-plus years later. I appreciate her quiet strength even more, because now I understand her struggles and how she dealt with them.

Grandma was born in 1896, before women had won the right to vote. As a young Russian immigrant who came to America with her parents, she worked in a sewing factory when she was barely twelve, to help support their home.

Finaliter Transcendation

Finaliter Transcendation

by William 'Sonny' Schneider

I think the three most important concepts in The Urantia Book are 1. The Fatherhood of God. 2. The brotherhood and sisterhood of humankind. 3. Finaliter Transcendation.

Now you may not know what Finaliter Transcendation is, as it's only mentioned in The Urantia Book once, and even if you know what it means you may disagree with me that it is the third most important concept in The Urantia Book. After all, it must compete with “Jesus being Michael of Nebadon,” “there is no such thing as an end to the universes,” or “a fragment of God lives within us.”

The Depth of One

The Depth of One

Dive Deep
into the Space of God.

Leave all your possessions behind.

Baggage is not allowed.

Truth is your ticket.

Love is your vessel.

Time is your currency.

Journey Fearlessly into the hearts where he and she and you,
strive toward the One.

Shedding the past as a garment overworn,

yet wearing your experience as a crown.

Reach wide across the ages of eternity.

Touching the face of God, in your fondest embraces,

Love to Love, Heart to Heart as Father to child.

Dive Deep into the Space of God.

Find yourself in the eyes
of your brothers and sisters.
Walk tenderly on the road to the future.
